North London Close Board Fencing

Close board fencing is constructed on site with posts and arris rails, and with featheredge boards fixed vertically to the arris rails. It is suitable for any choice of length as well as for both level and sloping ground. This type of garden fencing is generally erected with a wooden or concrete gravel board as it stops the end grain of the featheredge from coming into contact with the ground.

We normally erect posts at 2.4m intervals (up to max 3m) but in some instances, different length of sections may be required. We use 100mm x 100mm posts and set these 600mm deep into the ground concreted with a concrete mix. This can be done using either concrete or wooden posts. There is an option to strengthen the wooden posts using concrete support spurs.

Once the gravel board and posts are secure, we position the arris rails. These are fixed with supporting brackets to give additional strength. The featheredge boards (max 2.4m high) are then nailed for the length of the fence.

We can also offer you a choice of close board panel fencing made up of pre-constructed panels fitted into wooden or slotted concrete posts set into the ground.

All timber is pressure treated to enhance durability. However, to prolong the life of the fence we strongly recommend the fence to be painted after installation. If you would like us to do so, please discuss this with our surveyor and we will price the option in our quote.
